How To Transition Your Skincare Routine from Summer to Fall

So long sweat resistant solutions, hello moisture enriched creams

The summer heat calls for lightweight gels, creams, and a lot of SPF, but what happens when the cooler, drier temps roll in?

While you do not need to overhaul every single one of your products, there are a few general rules of thumb you can follow to keep skin clear and hydrated.

When the seasons change ~aside from grabbing your favorite cozy sweater~the next thing you may turn to is cranking up the heat. Whether in your car or at home, nothing is better than a blast of hot air and snuggling up under a heap of blankets. But the dry air can spell disaster for your skin regardless of skin type (oily, combo, dry, sensitive).

The biggest fall offenders run from itchy, dehydrated skin to over-exfoliating, or the dreaded breakouts from hormonal imbalances. However, they can be prevented by following a few simple steps as the temperature changes:

  • Try richer serum and moisturizer blends: switch these products with thicker solutions to keep skin hydrated and protected from dry air. More often than not, these products will contain ingredients that also promote anti-aging. Double whammy!

  • Be easy on exfoliating: now is not the time to get aggressive, scrubbing away precious layers of the skin leading to serious damage and potential for breakouts.

  • Invest in a humidifier: this device is functional for seasonal allergies but also to help keep moisture in the air and effectively for your skin.

  • Treat the entire surface area: the skin is the body’s largest organ, and it can be easy to forget about treating not only your face but your hands, neck, lips, and body. Invest in thicker body cream and hydrating chapstick that will also carry you through winter.

Autumn is the prime season for various facial peels that can aggressively target some of the top skin concerns. Never DIY this treatment, or you could run the risk of damaging your skin. Always consult a professional for the best plan of action that will yield the best results.

This is where I came in providing treatment for my dear friend, Genevieve. She has had flawless skin for as long as I can remember. Still, I jumped at the opportunity to curate a custom facial based on some of her chief skin concerns: hyperpigmentation, sensitive skin, and hormonal acne.

We used a simple protocol (see complete list below), and in this video, we break it all down for you.
